Antimony is a chemical element with the symbol Sb and atomic number 51, representing a silvery-white metalloid with a bluish hue. As a metalloid, antimony is used as an alloying additive to increase the hardness, mechanical strength, and thermal and electrical conductivity of alloys. Lead–antimony alloys are commonly used in the production of plates for lead-acid batteries.
